Why the
Pilates Center of Chattanooga? The instructors! Pilates is
more then the external form of the exercise. It is what is
going on the inside that makes Pilates the amazing exercise
that it is! The ability to instruct the beginning student on
the internal part of the exercise takes training,
understanding of Pilates principals and experience. All of
our instructors have been trained by the most respected
classical Pilates certifiers. The mat instructors have full
mat certification by Power Pilates and are long term
enthusiastic students of Pilates themselves. The full
comprehensive instructors have gone through the intensive,
600+ hours training through Power Pilates and/or Romana’s
Pilates.
Many Pilates
certification courses only briefly teach the external form
of the mat exercises. Without the proper in depth instructor
training and personal Pilates study, how is the instructor
to help a novice student to grow in the understanding of
Pilates principals? In considering any Pilates program, ask
about the training of the instructors. It makes a
difference!
In addition to
the instructors, our studio is a cozy, intimate atmosphere
where we strive to make everyone feel comfortable and at
home. It is easy to get to and has free ample parking in the
back of the building.

How will I
feel after my first Pilates workout? You will probably feel
invigorated and energized. But like many people, you might
not feel as though you have gone through a workout, at least
not until the next day! But don’t worry, real work IS being
done.
You will probably feel as though this is different from
anything you have ever done. Even the moves that look
familiar feel different. You might be wondering what exactly
is going on in Pilates. But don’t worry, you will soon catch
on.
I hear a lot about core training these days. Is Pilates a
core workout?
Core training
has been getting the buzz the last few years. We have been
told training the core is important but it doesn’t happen in
the typical weight lifting or aerobic workout. So what is it
exactly? Unfortunately, core training is often
misunderstood. Doing scads of crunches and other gut
wrenching exercises is NOT core training.
A short definition of what it is:
training strength, flexibility and control
THROUGH THE CORE.
It is about
initiating ALL movement from the center of the body. By
doing this, you get more then strong flat abdominals.
Strength and flexibility can be developed together, rather
in opposition to one another. An equal balance of the two
give maximum control over the body. In this process, yes,
you can develop killer abs. And wonderful posture…and
correct alignment…and a full body toning…and reduced injury
potential…and increased coordination and grace…and…well,
many, many other wonderful benefits. But it all starts from
one place, the center. Now that’s core trainng. That’s
Pilates.
Pilates is the
ORIGINAL core training. And Pilates has been doing it for
almost 90 years. All valid core training programs can trace
their roots to Pilates, so why not do your core training
where it all began-Pilates?
